Silvia MAZZINIOther worlds are possible (an aproximation to art and politcs from Bloch and Vattimo)

“Beauty will save the world”: so the message of hope in Dostoyevsky’s “The idiot”. But what exactly means "Beauty" in this context? And could our multiperspective, complex world of today be saved, too?

The possibility for a concrete change in contemporary society is inquired through an hermeneutical dialogue between the 'philosopher of hope' Ernst Bloch and the Italian philosopher Gianni Vattimo, founder of the 'weak thought'. In particular, the comparison of their aesthetical and political ideas will show an innovative model of social participation, where creativity and multiple possibilities of interpretation are not only intrinsic character of arts, but furthermore concrete inspirations for a renewed approach to democracy. The staging and 'Self(re)presentation' of theatre will be analysed as a significant example of participation in arts and politics not only in face-to-face communication, but also in new forms of social networking.

Enrique DÍEZ GUTIÉRREZAlternatives to the Growth Dogma

A continuous growing is not possible within a limited planet. The "growth" economy of capitalism, the branded "developed" society, has not genuinely generated a human progress. The growth far from producing well-being and satisfaction of needs for humanity as a whole, has really set the named "20/80 society", in which just a few (and even less and less) people are becoming much richer, while the majority of world population are plunging into the abyss of poverty, exploitation and misery. At the same time, the planet is being exhausted, looted in its limited resources and pushed towards an ecological catastrophe which is endangering the life over the earth and the survival of future generations... The "Degrowth" represents a different way of relating us with the world, with nature, with other things and beings which can be universalised at the human level.

WEBINARS

Rainer ZIMMERMANNSocial dynamics in the information society (part 1)

Grounding Social Praxis in the Theory of Systems

Prof. Zimmermann, met in Munich with J.M. Díaz Nafría, discusses about the groundings of social praxis in the theory of systems, advancing the topics that will be further elaborated in León during the last week of January 2014.

Webinar held on October 31st, 10:30 am, broadcasted through the YT channel of MyUniversity-ULE from Munich University of Applied Sciences, Germany.

Gordana DODIG-CRNKOVICSocial dynamics in the information society (part 2)

VIDEOS OF INTEREST FOR THE TOPICS DISCUSSED

Soundpainting: Mauvaises Langues

Soundpainting performance directed by Beatriz Franco with two comedians, percussion, sax and accordion.

The power of social networks (TV series "Redes - psicología" by Eduardo Punset)

Science documentary about the capacity of social networks (in a broad sense) to achieve social transformations. The model of small-world to which R. Zimmermann referred to in his systematic approach to networks (2012 Workshop).

The internet society. Empowering or censoring?

Excellent animation about the way Internet is really empowering democracy and censorship, enabling the overcoming of well-established myths and to properly assessing the opportunities and threats of digital technologies.

Every one of us connect the world (Internet.org)

The internet network as concrete tool for (pacific) interconnection among the peoples, though to that end, as indicated, fear access should be warranties. In any case, we pose does access suffices?

The XXI Century Enlightenment

In this animation film, Matthew Taylor explores the meaning of the idea '21st Century Enlightenment'. How might this idea might help us meet the challenges the world faces today, and what role can be played by organisations such as the RSA? Whereas 18th Century Enlightenment was moved by an utopia of a perfect organisation of the knowledge collective enterprise -alike Baco's New Atlantis-, a current Enlightenment should need a different utopia, as we indeed search for in PRIMER. Wolfgang's position, in his presentation, is as well quite close to these ideas in terms of the "global sustainable information society".
